Economic insecurity is one of the most common reasons a person is forced to stay with an abusive partner. When a survivor of intimate partner violence has access to economic independence and robust benefits, including paid safe leave, they’re better able to keep their jobs, find safety for themselves and their children, and heal from the abuse.
As a co-chair of the Safe Leave Working Group along with Center for American Progress, FUTURES is thrilled to release “The Need for Paid Safe Leave & Model Legislative Language.”
This first of its kind resource lays out why and how paid safe leave helps survivors of IPV and other types of violence and abuse. It includes model policy language for policymakers, advocates, and stakeholders and represents the work of more than 27 local, state and national groups.
