In April of 2022, the Attorneys General Association and Basketball Africa League / NBA (BAL4HER) invited FUTURES to the BAL tournament taking place in Cairo, Egypt, to introduce the vital tenets of advancing allyship of professional athletes towards women and girls in their communities. Responding to this request, FUTURES conducted three 60-minute workshops to the participating BAL teams which included, Zamalek (Egypt), Cobra Sport (South Sudan), Petro (Angola), Cape Town (South Africa), FAP (Cameroon), and BC Espoir Fukash (Republic of the Congo). The workshops introduced the vital tenets of advancing male allyship of females in sports and focused on how BAL professional players (and secondarily coaches and others as well) can leverage their role in highly visible athletics as a platform for great gender equity, safety, health, and wellbeing for all in the community, particularly women and girls. The presentation and interactive engagement covered the issues of gender equity, what it means to be a man, athletes as leaders, and other topics that athletes raised during the sessions.
